EsquireWell Turns 3! Join Me in Celebrating Reinvention & Reflection

This week marks a personal milestone: I’m celebrating three years in business! Happy birthday to EsquireWell!
With this anniversary, I’ve taken a step back to think about what’s working, what I want to keep, and where I’d like to make some changes. I’ve refreshed my website (you can check it out here), updated my logo, and have exciting plans in the works for 2025 (stay tuned!).
This reflection has reminded me of how critical reinvention - both personal and professional - is for long-term well-being.
Why Reinvention and Reflection Matter
In legal practice, growth and change aren’t just nice to have; they’re essential. Strategic planning isn’t just for organizations; you can do it for yourself, too. I consider personal and professional strategic planning to be the secret to navigating your evolving goals, avoiding burnout, and staying fulfilled. Whether it’s boredom creeping in, restlessness signaling it’s time for a shift, or life events nudging us toward change, reinvention helps us stay aligned with what matters most.
When we pause to reflect, we can:
- Reaffirm our values: Who do you want to serve? What kind of impact do you want to make?
- Reassess your goals: Have your priorities changed due to life events, such as having children, moving, or sending kids to college (I launched two this year!)?
- Build resilience and engagement: New projects or challenges prevent stagnation and reignite passion for our work.
Reinvention isn’t about abandoning what you’ve built; it’s about strategically adjusting your course to align your life and practice with what you’ve learned about yourself along the way.
Reflect with Self-Compassion Then Plan Strategically
When we reflect on our careers or personal lives, self-compassion is essential. Rather than judging what hasn’t worked, we can observe with curiosity and learn from it. This reflective process allows us to:
- Identify patterns: What practices have brought success or fulfillment? Which have drained energy?
- Celebrate progress: Recognize wins, no matter how small. Reflection isn't just about what's missing—it's about seeing what’s going well too.
- Plan with clarity: Once we understand where we’ve been, we can set intentional goals for where we want to go next. This is where strategic planning comes in—designing the future you want rather than leaving it to chance.
- Ask yourself good self-coaching questions like: (1) What’s working? (2) What’s not working? (3) What do I want to do or experience differently? (4) What help or resources do I need to make that a reality?
How to Reinvent Yourself Within Your Current Role or Beyond
Reinvention doesn’t have to mean starting over. Sometimes, it’s about small changes that create big impact.
- Ask for New Projects: Explore new areas of law or volunteer for projects that excite you. Expanding your expertise can open doors and keep you engaged.
- Adjust Your Role: Consider small changes—like mentoring, taking on leadership roles, or advocating for responsibilities that play to your strengths. Even minor shifts can bring new energy.
- Reevaluate Your Extracurriculars: Align your personal activities and passions with your goals. Volunteering, joining professional committees, or rediscovering hobbies can boost well-being and provide new perspectives.
- Think Strategically About Personal Growth: What routines, hobbies, or wellness practices can you adopt or revisit? Mindfulness, fitness routines, travel, or creative projects can help you feel more balanced and fulfilled.
Planning for the Next Season of Life
Big life events often nudge us to rethink our trajectory. Whether you’re launching kids to college (like I did this year), recovering from a move, experiencing a career shift, or embracing new personal roles, each stage presents new opportunities to reflect and refine your goals.
Strategic reinvention means planning your life and career with the future in mind:
- What do you want your practice to look like?
- How do you want your life to feel day-to-day?
- Who do you want to serve, and how?
Each of these questions helps guide the intentional shifts that keep us aligned with our values and priorities.
Reinvention as a Key to Professional Success and Well-Being
At the heart of my work is the belief that well-being is both a professional competency and a requirement for success. Reinvention builds emotional intelligence by helping us understand and regulate our needs and emotions. It also fosters leadership by encouraging us to align our personal and professional lives with clarity and purpose.
This third anniversary has reminded me of the power of refreshing and reimagining our work and lives. Whether you’re pursuing big changes or small tweaks, reinvention keeps us engaged, aligned, and fulfilled—the foundation for personal well-being and professional excellence.
So, here’s to embracing change and celebrating progress!
Let’s reflect together: What’s one small way you can refresh or reinvent your role today?
